Singapore

Here we are at the end.

We arrived in Singapore at 6:30am local time which was 12:30 am Paris time. No sleeping on the plane as the times were all wrong.
We now know, with the benefit of hindsight, that this stopover was a mistake. We could have been asleep in our own beds by now instead of setting the alarm for 3:30am for our flight home tomorrow.
As we couldn't get into our room early this morning, we had a quick cappuccino at Raffles hotel then hopped on the "hop on hop off bus" without hopping off anywhere- to kill time. As expected, the weather is hot and very humid- combined with tiredness, we were unable to do any sightseeing.
Back to the hotel to sit by the pool and read until our room was ready at lunch time. Jim went straight to sleep. I decided to get a taxi to Orchard roads to explore the shops but couldn't find an ATM anywhere to get cash for the taxi ( even asking for directions from hotel). So, back to the room and a little doze.
We then headed down to a bar in Clarke Quay to watch the second half of the grand final. Spoke to a couple of nice Aussies.

We were heading to the Bay Gardens but that, too, got difficult, so abandoned the idea for a quick bite and return to the hotel.

We have had a fantastic seven weeks travelling but are very much looking forward to getting home and seeing the kids. It may take some time to get back to a normal routine but it has been an incredible time.
For those following our journey, I hope you have enjoyed sharing our experiences. We are looking forward to catching up with friends and family soon as well.
Until next time, au revoir, Buon giorno, and however they say bye in Turkish!

  2. I agree with Scott - I loved every word and every photo. I felt like I was there with you and waited with bated breath for the next bit. I'm sorry it's over (for both of us!) but you've shared such a beautiful story with us and I thank you for making the effort to write and post pictures throughout the whole trip. I've shared the blog with Sev (my husband) who now wants to go to Turkey!!
    Again thank you.
    See you at work, Michele.

Catherine Milazzo - yes I'm the one who you didn't know the identity of! And as I was reading the blog from my iPad most of the time I wasn't able to publish comments despite trying several times.
