Another 5:30 wake up for an early departure, lots of driving and lots of heat.
Our first main stop was Bergamon where we could see ( but not visit) the acropolis of ancient Pergamon.
We then visited the Asklepion ruins, probably the world's earliest medical centre. People would come here for natural healing when feeling "stressed." They would have mud baths, spa baths, sleep ( and have utterances interpreted) and be entertained by comedians in the theatre to cheer you. Sounds like a great place to spend a girls' weekend away.
We then headed off to Homer's legendary city of Troy. The ruins were in ruins it we were able to imagine the area due to the expertise of our guide. The horse, of course, is a reconstruction of the fabled wooden horse.
The heat today seemed more extreme than the last few days. Again it was about 38 degrees. Occasional breezes in the shade were welcome as was our relatively early arrival at our hotel- the Kolin in Canakkale.
We got to the hotel at about 5:30- at least an hour earlier than usual.
We were able to have a swim in the wonderfully cold pool and relax with a poolside drink before dinner.
The view is across the Dardanelles looking towards the Gallipoli peninsula where we visit tomorrow.

Is this where you're staying? Sure makes the heat worth putting up with to jump into that gorgeous pool!
ReplyDeleteSure is. It was the only time we arrived early enough to enjoy hotel facilities. By the way, can you give me a clue as to your identity?
